We are in need of a few dedicated people to help keep our GMRS community active and prepared! One area where we need some dedicated people is as a Net Controller. What does a Net Controller do? The Net Controller is the person that runs one of our several nets that we operate during the month. Currently we are running nets every Tuesday at 1930 hours (7:30 PM). But we would like to get the other nets we have had in the past back up and running as well. This includes the weekly Saturday net, as well as the Thursday net, that is currently running on Wednesdays at 1900 hours (7:00 PM) based on the availability of our dedicated Net Controller, Mike E. WSIF806.
Why join as a Net Controller or participate in one (or more) of our nets? It allows you to test your equipment regularly so that you know it will be ready and working when you need it. It allows you to gain confidence using your radio and learn good operating practices. You get to meet other GMRS operators in your area and build friendships. The other operators can also help you if you have questions about equipment or operations. You’ll be contributing to community preparedness and safety by keeping your skills up and equipment operational so should there be an event such as a natural disaster. It is in events such as that in which you may become an area’s only means of communications.
So even if you can only help occasionally, every volunteer strengthens our group. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please fill out the form at Net Controller Form – Highlands County GMRS. And of course, please join us for any of our nets and introduce yourself to the group. We’d love to have you join us!
