We wanted to provide a quick update regarding the repeater.
The Midland repeater was placed back in service at the tower site on Saturday, January 3rd. While at the site, with the assistance of binoculars, we took a look at the antenna from the ground. At that time the antenna, from what we could see from that vantage point, appears to be intact and undamaged. However, it was noted of a possible issue with the coax as it appears to have a sharp bend in it at one point near the antenna. It was not possible to ascertain for certain if there is damage at that point or not. Through contact with one of our local GMRS users we are working on making arrangements to get a closer look at the antenna and coax through the use of a drone. We are hopeful that this will enable us to have a better idea of the situation without having someone climb the tower to investigate. We will continue to keep everyone posted on any progress.

At this time, we’ve determined that the antenna will need to be replaced, and a new one will be have to be purchased. Because of this, repeater coverage is currently limited and may not be getting out as well as usual.
Additionally, the Midland repeater was temporarily removed for maintenance, which is also contributing to the reduced performance. The good news is that the Midland repeater is scheduled to be reinstalled tomorrow, 1-3-26, in the afternoon.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we work through this and will continue to keep the group updated as progress is made. Thank you for your support of the Highlands County GMRS system.
